Wednesday 4-12 - Around Kihei

An early morning walk along the beach in front of our lodgings is a nice way to start the day. There are a few heads popping up in the water, so there are turtles, just not any that want a close up photo shoot. The policeman is putting up the "Warning - Shark Sighted" sign which will discourage this lot of tourists from having a dip. It is a Tiger Shark that decided to try a board as a snack yesterday.

Later in the morning we head along the bay south. Today's mission is to go as far south as a car can go. First stop is a life sized hump back whale, just hanging around in a park. Our main stop is to visit the Wailea district, an area of up market resorts and an upmarket shopping mall. We have Gucci, Tiffany, Prada to name a few, plus galleries of art, photos, wood carving and jewellery. There are a few things that catch our eyes but the prices do bring a few tears!!!

Beaches, there are a few we stop at, some fairly well patronised. Our wildlife viewing is restricted to some crabs playing on the rocks and some sea turtles basking on a secluded little cove beach. A church near the end of the road is a tranquil spot overlooking the sea. The last lava flow on Maui occurred in the late 1700's when it flowed from a fissure in the side of the volcano. The last of the road snakes its way through the lava.

Lunch is at a Moose place (a bar and grill) and then the afternoon is at leisure to catch up on photos, emails, puzzles or books. Just a few spots of rain despite some ominous looking clouds. A pleasant day all round.
